Physical and Mental Health and Wellness

Physiotherapy and Wellness

It has been an unprecedented year and more than ever we’ve had the time to reflect upon what matters in our lives. For this holiday season, we hope that everyone and their families are able to celebrate in small but joyful ways and to stay safe and healthy. Not only is it important to take care of yourself physically, but mentally as well. At Peak Form Physiotherapy, here are some things that we do to keep up our physical and mental health and we hope it inspires you to find moments in your day to fit in some activity and mindfulness.

Square breathing
The technique is as follows: slowly inhale for 4 seconds to fill your lungs, hold that breath for 4 seconds, exhale slowly for 4 seconds to empty your lungs, and finally rest for 4 seconds before repeating. This type of breathwork can be done any time of the day for as little or as long as you have time for and can help to destress the body and relax the mind.

Sun salutations
This well-known yoga flow sequence combines breathwork with stretching and strengthening the body. It is a great way to introduce a little bit of physical activity into your day and a nice way to start the day.

Brisk walk
Nothing compares to fresh air and a change of scenery to refresh the body and mind. Although it may seem more effortful to go out in cold weather, we encourage you to bundle up and grab a friend for a physically-distanced walk. We always feel better, physically and mentally, after a walk and some thoughtful conversation.

Although this year may have been challenging in more ways than one, we’re all in it together and we’re looking forward to what the new year brings. We hope to see you all again at the clinic in the new year!
