Moments of Physical Activity During the Holidays
If you’re anything like our team at Peak Form Physio, you may feel secretly guilty for indulging in the joyous season of the holidays! It’s the season of drinking eggnog, festive potlucks, and frantic rescheduling of gym days to get your holiday shopping done. While we can’t say no to an extra marshmallow in our hot chocolate, we also know that we can try to fit in a bit of physical activity during the holiday season to lessen the guilt.
Here are Peak Form Physio’s top seven tips for more moments of physical activity during the holidays:
- With the winter chill, what better way to start your day and warm up your body than with 10 minutes of yoga? A few rounds of sun salutations will have you limber and ready for a day of holiday shopping.
- Embrace the nature of the crowded parking lot at the mall! Park further away and get in those extra steps!
- Continue the trend of avoiding crowds from packed elevators and escalators by taking the stairs!
- The holiday season is the perfect time to gather friends and family. Consider swapping out a movie night for a winter hike or outdoor skating!
- Snow in Mississauga is inevitable but also an opportunity for some extra physical activity! Put away that snowblower and get down to shoveling (see our tips for avoiding back pain while shoveling snow).
- Enjoy a brisk winter walk after a big meal. Just 10 minutes around the block can leave you feeling energized and refreshed rather than lethargic!
- Lastly, request gifts that give you a kick-start on more physical activity in the new year, such as a new yoga mat or swimming lessons!
